Eight people have died trying to cross the Channel from France to England by boat

By Umer Habib, Reporting from Portugal.

Several people lost their lives early Sunday while attempting to cross the English Channel from northern France, according to French authorities.

We must seriously consider the future risks and challenges ahead. Even if we are struggling with very little, it’s essential to stay within legal boundaries. Those who attempted to cross the sea by boat from France to England lost their lives because they pursued their desires through illegal means.

As a foreign affairs analyst, I understand the global economic crisis and the desperation people feel to achieve a better life. However, I want to send a message to the world, especially to immigrants: We must believe in ourselves and our ability to succeed through legal means. Even if we have to endure hardships, including hunger, we must not cross legal boundaries or resort to illegal activities to earn a living. Success achieved the right way is far more sustainable and honorable.

Now, let’s address the economic evaluation and the reasons why people were leaving France for England. The main belief is that by moving to England, they would somehow become wealthy. I want to challenge this mindset and shift the financial perspective: what is meant for you will come to you, regardless of location. It’s not about chasing wealth in different places, but about understanding that success will find you when it’s destined, no matter where you are.

Let me outline the key economic differences between the UK and France based on key facts and figures

United Kingdom: In 2023, the UK’s GDP was around $3.07 trillion.

United Kingdom: As of 2023, the UK’s unemployment rate was around 4.3%.

France: While cities like Paris are expensive, the overall cost of living in France is slightly lower than in the UK.

United Kingdom: The cost of living in major cities like London is generally higher, especially in housing.

In conclusion, we must believe in Europe’s potential to enhance trade and growth. Europe is our asset, and we are part of it. It’s in our hands to build up nations like France, Belgium, Portugal, Bulgaria, Romania, and Italy. There’s no need to seek opportunities elsewhere in the world—trust in Europe and start working toward its development.
